History of the bags

In 2015, bags are made for the Exhibition of Changarrito 3650 days (and counting...) at Oficina de Proyectos Culturales, Puerto Vallarta, coinciding with the 10 years of the creation of Changarrito Project.


Also in 2015, Mexic Arte Museum Changarrito Tote Bags come out, creation of the Graphic Designer  Sixto-Juan Zavala, conceived foR Changarrito Exhibition at the mentioned museum in Austin, TX.



In 2014, the New Bags ‘Changarrito / AGUASCALIENTES’,
defining tendencies at 
Museo de Arte Contemporáneo N° 8.



In December, 2013, there was an Exhibition of Changarrito at 'ArtCareyes', and here below a wide variety of bags and colors. 



In October, 2013, a line of Gift-Bags is launched, for the 'Fowler Museum', for its 50th Anniversary, in  color blue and gold.


In May, 2013, opportunity in which Changarrito travelled to the 55th Edition of the Venice Biennial, in order to partcipate in the promotion of the artist Ariel Guzik, a series of bags were made in which the logo of Cordiox project by Guzik was captured, by the hand of Changarrito. 



At the beginning of 2013, Changarrito took part in the "Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts", with its collection of bags made especially  for the occasion. 


Also at the beginning of 2013, because of the participation of Changarrito in the exhibition ‘Transtios’, at Artpace, San Antonio, Texas, exclusive designs were created for this event, and with renewed logo.  


In 2012, another line of bags was launched, whose focus was the already famous logo of Changarrito. 

During the same year 2012, the bags were renewed, with a motif inspired by the multiple trips of Changarrito, across countries and cities base of Art and fashion. The set of bags plays with transparency with prints, metallized fabric, details that make  that a simple bag turns into a collectable object. 


 

  
  
   


Some years before, in 2009, Changarrito launched its first model of bags, with printed and plain designs, and with a wide range of colors.

Orígenes del Changarrito  En México, la tradición del comercio callejero se remonta a la época prehispánica. Hay evidencias de un gran mercado que funcionaba en el rumbo de Tlatelolco ya en el siglo XIV, del que años después Hernán Cortés y Bernal Díaz del Castillo harían detallada y asombrada descripción. History of the cart

Changarrito can appear in different ways, it depends on the character that CH gets or needs, for example: CH takes shape of publisher with “Letritas del Changarrito”, as a pretext for making books. The excuse for inviting and hosting artists of other countries at  Changarrito Residency.  Changarrito Project is a complex and dynamic work, CH is an idea that can appear in different formats, CH is not reduced to a cart. The designed carts are the excuse for moving the Works of the artists, if the cart disappears, breaks, get lost, Changarrito carry on because CH does not depend on the object. Here we present the History of the Cart. 2004 - Model In September, 2004, Máximo González develops a sketch of cart for Changarrito Project. Through  Escuela de Cultura Popular Mártires del ‘68 , Iseo Noyola Isgleas is hired for the interpretation of the design of the first Changarrito cart. This cart is in turn built by Alfredo Meneses. This model is called:  2004 Model. Measures Opened: 150 cm high

Changarrito Beginning In Mexico, we can trace street vending back to pre-Colombian times. There is evidence of a great market that functioned near Tlatelolco since the XIV century. Years later Hernán Cortés and Bernal Díaz del Castillo wrote detailed and astounding descriptions of this market. Throughout the city we find smaller markets, although not less important, called tianquitzli by the indigenous. These markets would be the origin of what we know today as “tianguis”; ambulant markets that are set up one or two days a week in different parts of the city. These tianguis are a borderline between formal and informal commerce, considering they are in constant expansion.   What we call “informal commerce” has become a phenomenon of extraordinary dimensions, considering the continuous economic crisis that affects the country and the accelerated decrease in employment generation.
